This has been a long time coming. It is something that we have planned to do for over a year… or maybe even longer? I never know where to start when writing a journal, doing a voice recording, or sometimes even training a dog. “Just go with it” seems to be what floods my brain every time. This tends to work the best in most situations.
I have been training dogs for most of my life. From small to large, I’ve worked with them all. They have challenged me, loved me, grown me, and even helped me find peace in times of trouble. Dogs listen with their ears and act with their hearts. They are honest, hard working (most of the time), and loyal.
Our family consists of 4 feet and 36 paws. We never imagined that we would have this many dogs, however, fate had different plans. We live a full and busy life on our farm. The dogs play in the fields, love to go on hikes, enjoy swimming in the lake, compete in multiple different dog sports, and keep the couch warm when we are away. Us, the humans, are just along for the ride. It is our goal to make every one of them feel special.
I (Lady Human) am a professional dog trainer. I have been competing with dogs for over 20 years, however, I started training my dogs to do tricks at 6 years old. I loved the fun things that I could teach my dog, like how to jump onto a stool or go underneath it; all with a different word and hand placement! My mother signed me up for the 4-H Dog Project, and the rest is history. Although I have competed in many many avenues of dog training, I love sitting down with cookies and clicker and allowing my dogs to create their own behaviors.
Man Human has a “real” job. He competes in dog sports for fun (he has quite the resume), but he enjoys dog ownership more than dog competition. Give him a cup of coffee and a fluffy canine companion, and he is as happy as a bug in a rug.
The goal of our blog is to document the moments that we have with our wonderful dogs. We hope to share a glimpse of our crazy, fulfilling life with you. Posts may be about meal times, playing ball, training sessions, or maybe just a cuddle on the couch. Every small piece is what makes the big picture.
Until Next Time,
Lady Human
